At KvT we developed the QVT150, based on the same Scania engine as the QVT-300 TWIN. The design was done within the team, partly building on the Boskalis project. I was mainly involved in troubleshooting, commissioning and putting the system into operation — for both the natural-gas and biogas versions, both on-site at KvT and at the client's location.
Bredenoord, working together with KvT, developed their own QVT150. I advised and coordinated on design aspects of the engine and gas train, and ultimately commissioned and tested the set myself. Ten engines were also prepared at our workshop for this project.
I also independently researched exhaust temperatures: I tested a Scania 13-litre engine with turbo up to 250kW, then had a turbo-delete carried out in our workshop, and subsequently tested it again up to 130kW.
Based on these measurements, I had high-compression pistons manufactured to increase efficiency and lower exhaust temperatures. These have since been installed in our workshop under my coordination. The next step is to test the machine again with these pistons fitted.
