Outside of work, together with a friend, I fully restored my own Trabant 1.1. This involved extensive welding on the frame, replacing the clutch and timing belt, tidying up the wiring, fabricating engine mounts, and overhauling the driveshafts, brakes and fuel system. A different five-speed gearbox was also fitted. The underside of the car is fully treated and coated, and the car has passed its roadworthiness inspection and is back on the road.
