To deliver five generator sets to Voet Energy Solutions on an unusually tight deadline, we bought back existing LNG sets from another client and converted them to biogas in record time. This required replacing the entire gas train and writing new software for the ECU and genset controller, alongside various further modifications. The order came in over Christmas; the machines were delivered by mid-February — in roughly two and a half months.
For this project I built a fully self-designed tube-in-tube heat exchanger, rated for a pressure of 250 bar. It heats the biogas before the pressure is reduced, to lessen the temperature drop caused by that pressure drop.
Subsequently, I designed and built a connection box — in three weeks, from design to the field — that allows four gensets to be connected to two gas containers, with the box automatically switching between them. The box is rated for 200 bar biogas and fully ATEX-certified. I did almost all of the mechanical design and construction of the control cabinet myself; colleagues supported me with the electrical schematics.
